Description
Baxter was found wandering on Main Street, and was taken to one of our foster homes. He is a truly lovely dog - friendly, gentle and affectionate, and very good with children. He has been checked out by our vet, and he is deaf. His eyesight is good, although his pale blue eyes are shaped so he may have a slightly different view of what's around him. The test for glaucoma was negative. He has no other health issues. He is being given basic training using hand signals, and has already learned to sit and lay down. He gets on well with other dogs and cats, and his ideal home would be one with a kind family, perhaps who already have friendly dogs who would play with him, and where there is lots going on that he can be involved in - he is very sociable and enjoys interaction. He would be miserable if he didn't have a secure yard to play and romp in. He is intelligent, but his deafness means that he can't respond in the same way as dogs with normal hearing, so he needs patient handling. He is on a leash whenever he isn't in a securely fenced area. He loves to play tug of war or romp'n'wrestle with other dogs, but will also play happily with a ball, tossing it into the air and running after it. His favorite treat at the moment is slices of hot dog, which we use for his training, but he also likes milkbones and rawhide chews. He will make a great family pet!
